Will Central Perk become a reality?

You live in Greenwich Village, New York, and at the weekend you can be found in your favorite coffee shop for most of the day. In the middle of the place stands a huge velvet sofa, where you and your group of friends invariably lounge around, celebrating life. Or making each other’s lives miserable – that works too. That’s what friends are for.

Sound familiar? Then you know that, of course, we’re talking about Central Perk, the fictional coffee house from Friends. Or is it fictional? Warner Bros recently took the first steps toward making your favorite hangout a reality. The documents reveal that the production company has obtained the exclusive rights to use the iconic Central Perk logo for ‘coffee shop and café services; coffee bars; tea bars; snack bars.’ We’re curious to see whether grumpy Gunther will also make his comeback.

Word from the grapevine
Since the series began in 1994, there has been just one official Central Perk pop-up, held to mark the sitcom’s twentieth anniversary. And although we’re talking about grapevine news here, or, let’s just call it a juicy rumor, we’re happy to play along in this case – even if Phoebe decides to sing a little tune during the opening. Press invitation, anyone?
