Thirsty tales

Win: 5x perfect summer rosé

roseyy

The sun only has to show itself for a moment and our craving for rosé instantly increases. Not only on the terrace, but also during dinner. Because why serve white and red with dinner, but not rosé? FavorFlav visited all-time favorite Okhuysen in Haarlem – seriously: go here – and, rosy from the tasting, took the following bottles home. And the best part is yet to come: you can win all five of them.

2017 Guilhem Rosé – Pays de l’Hérault

Moulin de Gassac

This southern French saignée rosé consists of equal parts syrah and carignan. It is a fruity, fresh and approachable wine of the kind that makes an immediate impression. Think red flowers, cherries, berries, red apple and peach. Yes, this is summer in its purest form, and the wine pairs fantastically with dishes that are just as rich in vegetables as this wine is in fruit; think generously filled salads and vegetable dishes. Also delicious with a Provençal fish dish or tuna.

2017 Huerta del Rey rosado

Palacio de Bornos

Rueda is famous for its white verdejo wines, but winery Palacio de Bornos proves that you can also make fantastic rosé there with the very Spanish blue tempranillo and garnacha grapes. They are picked before dawn, when they are at their freshest and juiciest. This Spanish rosado has an uplifting nose with red fruit and a spicy hint of pepper. On the palate, it is juicy and refreshing. And that color; what a celebration! Especially when you serve it with Spanish hams, sausage, olives and cheeses.

2017 Rosé d`Une Nuit – Coteaux Varois en Provence

Domaine du Deffends

Winemaker Suzel de Lanversin is described by the influential wine guide La Revue de Vin de France as one of France’s most remarkable winemakers. Lanversin’s organic-certified rosé, made from grenache and cinsault grapes, has a large following worldwide. It is a beautiful pale pink color and has aromas of strawberry, wildflowers and raspberry. The taste is juicy and elegant; we taste ripe red fruit, subtle herbs and a pleasant freshness. This rosé pairs perfectly with prawns in a spicy tomato sauce, lobster, grilled fish with Mediterranean herbs, charcuterie and lamb or veal.

2017 Hasenhaide rosé

Weingut Ingrid Groiss

Look, I didn’t know this either. Austrian rosé—it actually exists! This Hasenhaide from young winemaker Ingrid Groiss is our absolute favorite. Ingrid farms the vineyards, planted by her grandmother, organically and with great respect for the natural environment. Extra points for Ingrid. Not least because it results in this salmon-pink rosé with aromas of fresh strawberries and cherries. The juicy fruit and mild minerality are in perfect harmony. Delicious with flatbread topped with aubergine spread, grilled salmon, crispy flammkuchen with bacon and cheese, and a tasty pasta with spring vegetables.

2017 Sancerre rosé

Domaine de la Garenne

The Loire in general, and Sancerre in particular, typically produce rather expressive rosés. The same goes for the Sancerre rosé from Fabienne and Benoit Godon, made from grapes from twenty-five-year-old pinot noir vines. The color of this complex rosé is beautifully pale, but the nose is explosive, fresh and floral all at once. The taste is juicy and fruity, with delicious acidity, making it a fantastic match for selles-sur-cher cheese, a mild prawn curry, or pasta with fresh vegetables and plenty of pepper. An elegant little wine, indeed.
