You have to see this in July

We all watch Netflix and TV. Because we have a hangover and are incapable of doing anything else, to learn new things or simply for fun. Every month, FavorFlav gives you an overview of the best, newest and most informative television programmes, films and documentaries about food and drink.

It works perfectly on our plates, but cucumber time also has a downside: very little happens on TV during this period. In July, we are largely dependent on 24Kitchen and Netflix for enjoyable food programmes, both inexhaustible sources of food entertainment.

Chef & My Fridge

When: this programme appeared on Netflix on 28 June. So you can binge-watch it all month in July.

What:

a South Korean cooking competition in which chefs have to put something delicious on the table using whatever is in the fridge at that moment at the homes of celebrities.
Why watch: because you’ll learn how to make something delicious with all the food still in your fridge. And because the programme’s hosts take notes with pens shaped like mushrooms and carrots.

Mijn Pop-Up Restaurant 2017

When: from 3 July, every weekday at 10:00 p.m. on 24Kitchen.

What:

a culinary competition set in Belgium. Six Flemish duos compete for the title of ‘Best Pop-up Restaurant 2017’.
Why watch: master chef Sergio Herman is on the jury. We could all learn a thing or two from him.

De Worsten van Babel op de camping

When: from 4 July, every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. on 24Kitchen.

What:

a cooking programme in which Hugo Kennis and Jasper and Marius Gottlieb (try to) cook up a storm at the campsite.
Why watch: because you’ve always wondered whether it’s possible to cook really well on a single-burner camping stove between the caravans.

Zomersmaken

When: from 5 July, every weekday at 6:45 p.m. on 24Kitchen.

What:

24Kitchen chefs cook from the Dominican Republic. Together with locals, they prepare traditional dishes using local produce.
Why watch: who wouldn’t want to gaze longingly at a sun-drenched island? Summer vibes guaranteed.

The Great British Bake Off

When: from 24 July, every weekday at 7:00 p.m. on NPO 1.

What:

the mother of Heel Holland Bakt.
Why watch: because the British version is even better than the Dutch one. More beautiful cakes, better bakes and indispensable British humour.
