Remarkable Research on Instagram

Living close to a supermarket is healthy for you. You would naturally think the opposite, because you are constantly at the supermarket whenever you feel like eating something. Yet that turns out not to be the case. Researchers in the United States analyzed food photos on Instagram and looked at the location of the photo and exactly what type of meal was photographed. The biggest visible difference between the photos? Fruit. People who live farther away from a supermarket take fewer photos of the fruit they eat than people who do have a supermarket nearby. The overall conclusion of the study is that people who live close to a supermarket make healthier meal choices. Another interesting observation was that people eat dishes that are popular in their region, such as salmon in the North and steak in the southern United States.

The Latest Food Scandal

Mixing grated cheese with wood pulp. Shocking, but it happens in the United States, and even more shocking is that it is perfectly legal according to the law. Wood pulp, listed on the label as cellulose, is used as a filler in food. Cheese producer Castle Cheese used the wood pulp in its cheap grated cheddar and Parmesan without disclosing it. The American food and drug authority discovered this after an investigation, and the cheesemaker must now appear in court. How can you avoid cheese with wood pulp as a consumer? Buy a block of real farmhouse cheese, Parmesan or cheddar and grate it yourself.
