Daalder big winner at Foodbloggers Awards 2018
What are the best and coolest hotspots, bars and restaurants of the year? The winners were announced during the Foodbloggers Awards 2018.
The big winner was Daalder, which won in the Best Casual Fine Ding Restaurant category as well as the One To Watch category for the most outstanding chef (namely chef Dennis Huwaë). Restaurant Entrepot was named best newcomer.
The awards, held for the second time this year, are an initiative of Roger Bloem, whom we know as co-founder of Cityguys (and number 19 in De FavorFlav Food Top 100 in 2017) and Susam Pang, aka BySam. Both are tireless spotters of the latest hospitality venues. They are supported by familiar names such as Culy.nl, De Buik van Rotterdam (De Buik will soon launch a 020 variant) and Culi Amsterdam. In total, a ten-member jury decides which hotspots are hip and happening according to the ever-expanding guild of food bloggers. In Amsterdam, that is, because other cities are (for the time being) neither scouted nor nominated.
Bloggers decide
The charm of these awards is that restaurants do not have to nominate themselves. The bloggers decide. Once again, many of our favorites were among the nominees this year. Not only best newcomer Entrepot, but also that other editorial favorite, Rijsel, in the Best Signature Dish category. The restaurant 212, much discussed and acclaimed by food bloggers, which was nominated in two categories—Best New Restaurant and Best Signature Dish—was remarkably left empty-handed. The prize for best cocktail bar went to Vesper, according to the jury because of its courage to keep reinventing itself.
Public award
Other winners: 4850 (All Day Concept), the ever-delightful Xampayeria Centra (Best Casual Dining) and Wijmpje Beukers (Best Service). Also fun: the Best Slash Concept category, or the best venue that knows how to combine hospitality with other entertainment (such as pétanque, skating, karaoke, air hockey or other retro arcade games). The winner in this new category was Duke of Tokyo. The public award, finally, went to Bar Alt.
