Irish coffee, of course, always contains a generous splash of whisky. Its smoky flavor gives the coffee an extra wintry touch. You immediately feel as though you’re sitting nice and warm in front of a roaring fireplace. To bring out that smoky flavor even more, we use the limited-edition Daterra Whisky Barrel Aged coffee from Peeze for this recipe.

Aged in whisky barrels

This limited edition was made especially for the Christmas season and has an extra festive touch. The coffee from Brazil was aged in whisky barrels that were used over the past few decades to age Glenfiddich Single Malt 12 Year Old whisky. Those aromas subtly return in the coffee’s flavor. It already tastes amazing when brewed as a regular cup of black coffee, but just imagine what it does in an Irish coffee.

Let’s get started!

Or rather, why just imagine it? Get started! We headed into the kitchen and have the ultimate recipe for you.

How to make the ultimate Irish coffee

  • Crush the cardamom pods, remove the seeds and set them aside.
  • For the sugar syrup, bring the sugar, 100 ml of water and the cardamom seeds to a boil in a saucepan. Let it simmer gently for approx. 5 minutes until a syrup forms. Be careful not to burn the sugar.
  • Meanwhile, whip the cream, optionally with some sugar, until softly whipped.
  • Warm a beautiful cup or mug.
  • Brew a strong cup of Daterra Whisky Barred Aged coffee from Peeze. Stir in the whisky and sugar syrup.
