Have you discovered the summery Spritzer yet?

There’s nothing more delicious on a hot summer day than a refreshing Spritz. We make a Spritzer ourselves (and of course we’ll tell you how to do it) or pour ourselves a CHANDON Garden Spritz, a delicious new drink that we instantly fell in love with. Tell me more! Of course, we will!

Much more than Aperol Spritz
These days, we all know Aperol Spritz. But that mix is actually derived from a popular drink from the countries around us: the Spritzer. It may not be called that everywhere, but Schorle Sauer and Sauergespritzter (Germany/Switzerland), G’spritzter (Austria), Sprisseto (Italy) and Fröccs (Hungary) all more or less come down to the same thing: a sparkling blend of wine, sparkling water and a few ice cubes.
Let it sparkle
There are countless variations. The proportions of the three main ingredients—wine, water & ice—vary considerably by region and style (in Hungary, no fewer than 16 different ratios have even been registered!). Most names can be traced back to the German word spritzen, meaning to splash, spray and fizz. With sparkling water added, wine can suddenly be enjoyed in large, thirst-quenching quantities.
Making your own Spritzer
It’s incredibly easy. A Weißer Spritzer is the most popular variety. But fruity red wine or rosé also makes for an exciting, beautifully coloured drink. Even sweet wine can be surprisingly good. Whatever colour or style you choose, the base wine should be fresh, fruity and unoaked (the latter causes a bitter aftertaste). Just young wine, in other words, without too much fuss.
Mix with some sparkling water and ice. Depending on your taste and preference, mix 1 part wine with 1 part sparkling water, 2 parts wine with 1 part water, or the other way around. Add ice cubes to taste. A slice or twist of lemon and/or orange makes it complete. Preferably serve it in a nice, large wine glass. That’s how you suddenly transform wine into a hip cocktail on the rocks.
Extra bonus: less alcohol
A Spritzer is always a good idea. It’s a deliciously light, thirst-quenching summer drink for a BBQ. Perfect for a festival, wonderful on the terrace, ideal for a picnic. And proportionally, you’re also drinking much less alcohol. Handy, right?

CHANDON Garden Spritz
Even easier than making one yourself: the new CHANDON Garden Spritz. This is a sparkling wine with a special twist: a bitter orange liqueur has been added, made from oranges, herbs and spices. This makes preparing a Spritz for yourself even easier—and believe me when I say it’s incredibly delicious:
Pour 180ml CHANDON Garden Spritz into a large glass. Add three or four ice cubes. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and 1 dried orange slice.

CHANDON Garden Spritz is (extra) delicious with spicy Asian food, sushi and sashimi—and my personal favourite: aged cheddar.
CHANDON Garden Spritz is available in the hospitality industry and at selected specialist wine shops and liquor stores in two sizes: 75cl (€42) and 187ml (piccolo, €11).
