Koekela
Everyone in Rotterdam knows this place between Eendrachtsplein and Mathenesserlaan. They have an amazing menu here, and you’ll want to order everything. We’re always fans of the cake of the month. June’s? A strawberry-rhubarb cake with a delicious layer of cream, topped with a compote of strawberries and rhubarb. The chocolate truffle cake will satisfy all your cravings, and we’d love to take a box of the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies home with us.
Urban Bakery
This trendy bakery has two locations in Rotterdam, one on Hoogstraat and one on Voorburgstraat. They don’t just serve cake, but also chocolates from Chocoholic—delicious. This chocolate is among the best available in the city. We especially love the lemon meringue pie here.

De Bonte Koe
For chocolate, you have to visit De Bonte Koe—and no, we don’t mean that animal in the meadow, but the little shop in the side street off the Meent. You can get the tastiest bars here, designed by artists. We’re especially fans of the chocolate bars with gin and the chocolates with vanilla and caramel or red chili pepper. They currently also have the most delicious chocolate letter treats!
Sands Cakes & Bubbles
“The tough counterpart to high tea”—and it really is. The cakes here are deliciously sweet, but with plenty of bite. Think old-fashioned, roughly cut apple pie. They also often have surprising combinations on the menu. For example, cupcakes with orange, white chocolate and coconut.

Want to enjoy something sweet without the guilt trip that follows? Then you absolutely have to visit SUE’s Bites Bar. They make amazing sweet bars that are free from sugar, gluten and lactose. This is also the ultimate spot for anyone with allergies. Our favorite bite is the refreshing key lime.
