7 handy cleaning tips for your kitchen

vieze oven

Cooking and eating are (at least for us) inextricably linked to making a mess. Of course, you clean up in between; you do the dishes, put away the pans and wipe down the countertop. But every now and then, your kitchen needs a more thorough cleaning. How do you go about it? Here’s a list of tips.

Stainless steel
You can make all stainless steel spotlessly clean in no time with a 1:1 mixture of water and white vinegar.

Oven

Baking soda may well be your greatest cleaning friend. You can use it for all sorts of things, including that filthy oven. This Australian professional cleaner shows in this TikTok video how easy it is. To get your oven properly clean, Kacie first turns it on at a low temperature. Then she sprinkles baking soda on the dirty spots and scrubs them clean with a sponge. Tip: use a non-scratch sponge!

Pans and sink

You can also make your pans and sink shine again after a treatment with baking soda. For the sink, sprinkle the baking soda into the basin and use half a lemon as a sponge to scrub it clean.

Gas stove
Clean your gas stove with steel wool sponges.

Extractor hood
If you want to clean your extractor hood properly, put a pan of water with a squeezed lemon in it on the stove, with the extractor switched on. The steam makes cleaning the grilles in the extractor much easier afterwards.

Wooden cutting board
Clean your wooden cutting board by first sprinkling it with salt. Rub this into the board using the cut side of half a lemon. Wipe the salt that has not absorbed into the board off with a tea towel. Then drizzle some oil over the board and spread it along the grain of the board. Leave it to absorb for 10 minutes, then wipe the excess oil off your board with a tea towel. It’s as good as new again, believe me.

Kettle
Remove limescale from your kettle by filling the thing with half water and half vinegar, then bringing it to a boil. Once the mixture has boiled, empty the appliance and simply scrub away the limescale residue with a sponge or brush.

Bonus tip
‘Make sure you always cook for someone, then you can order them to clean up the kitchen after dinner.’ Well, that’s one way to do it.
