Back to the snack platter

Don’t overcomplicate things with elaborate drinks boards packed with laborious finger food. Surely everyone longs to go back to the old-fashioned snack platter?

Pickles with meat

A good platter is full of it: gherkins wrapped in salami or ham. Rolled or stacked, pickles and meat are the ideal match.

Ham with asparagus

White asparagus from a jar wrapped in a slice of ham. A cocktail stick? Not necessary. Just eat it with your hands.

Rye bread tower

Keep stacking. Rye bread, herbed cream cheese, rye bread, and so on. Use soft Frisian rye bread and tangy cream cheese.

Devilled eggs

A crowd favourite that everyone will be after, so make sure you have enough. Cut the hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise and make a creamy mixture from the yolks to fill the halves. The editors’ favourite: mayonnaise, curry powder, pepper, salt and fresh chives.

Liver sausage

The very best can be found at Brandt & Levie. Just slice it and leave it at that.

On a cocktail stick

Silverskin onion with cheese, cucumber with cheese, pineapple with cheese, Gelderland sausage with gherkin. Anything goes. A cocktail stick makes everything just that bit more festive during the group conversation.

Smoked beef with egg

Boiled eggs cut into quarters and wrapped in smoked beef. Optionally served with a dollop of mayonnaise.

And just when you think that was it, here comes the grand finale:

Pigs in a blanket

It is what it is, a cocktail sausage wrapped in croissant dough. Serve with curry sauce, mustard or mayonnaise. Double-dipping is allowed.
