Hay fever? Drink gin and tonic

A runny nose, watery eyes and severe sneezing fits? Maybe it’s caused by your drink. From now on, leave beer and wine alone and order a gin and tonic. Because drinking gin and tonics regularly could help relieve hay fever symptoms. Now that’s uplifting news.

Cocktails, no pollen.
No, this isn’t a joke to sell you one of our favorite drinks. Many people already notice that hay fever symptoms get worse when they drink alcohol, but did you know that there’s also proven evidence as to why? According to a study by Asthma UK, certain substances found in high quantities in ciders, wine and beer can worsen your allergy. The culprits are the high levels of sulfites and histamine. These substances aggravate allergies and therefore your hay fever too.
Hay fever-friendly drinks
Unfortunately, G&T turns out not to be the new hay fever medicine, but still: if you’re sensitive to pollen during hay fever season, you’re better off ordering a gin and tonic than a beer. It won’t stop the itching, but it won’t make it worse either, which is the case with red wine and beer. So if you want to have an alcoholic drink, go for drinks with gin or vodka – they’re also good choices if you want to avoid a hangover. Cheers!
