The most eaten animal in the world?

Chicken nuggets, pork schnitzels and sirloin steak. All cuts of meat that are widely eaten in the Netherlands and the Western world, but what is the most widely eaten meat worldwide?

The number one and two are not surprising: according to the FOA (Food and Agricultuur Organization), they are indeed pork and chicken, respectively. You might then expect beef to be in third place, but it only comes in fifth. Horses and camels rank above it.
Perfectly normal
You may think it’s terribly sad to tuck into a horse, but in many countries people don’t see it any differently than they do a cow or pig. In China, Japan and Mexico, but also closer to home in Switzerland and Germany, horse meat regularly appears on the menu. And camel meat? It is eaten in Sudan, as well as in Kenya and Somalia. Would you dare try it?
