It started with a slice alongside the pie, but the cheese is sometimes also incorporated into the pie. Grated into the dough, for example, or in slices on top of the filling. It may sound strange, but these days we’re no longer surprised by a delicious sweet-and-salty combination, are we? Could this be the precursor to salted caramel? According to some people, a scoop of ice cream on your apple pie pales in comparison to cheddar—it’s that good.
