Grocery shopping is a financial burden every single time. But luckily, here at the editorial office, we’re more than happy to share our favorite cheap-ass snacks. Take advantage of it.
Favorite cheap snacks
French stick with herb butter
A classic, but unbeatable as far as we’re concerned. Always handy to have in your freezer. For €1.59, you get two French sticks, which you can also top and/or fill with grated mature cheese—just give it a try. Pure bliss!
Corn cakes
We always have corn cakes on our desks; they’re such a delicious snack and incredibly cheap too. A pack of 17 costs €0.89, need we say more? Yes, they stink if you’re not the one eating them, so our advice is: eat them together.
Knabbelsticks
Lots for little money, and wonderfully crunchy. A bag costs €0.56. You’d be cheating your own wallet not to buy them!
Chocolate chip cookies
They’re not healthy, but they are absurdly delicious. Crispy chocolate cookies with dark and milk chocolate pieces. And you only pay €1.15 for 12. Cha-ching!
Mini crackers
Pop them in your mouth, with or without a spread. Simple, tasty, easy and cheap. The salted variety also works well for an afternoon slump, literally and figuratively. €1.55—great deal.
Cheese sticks
Bo loves cheese sticks, especially Garlan, which she previously raved about (10x cheap supermarket favorites). Bo: ‘The kind of snack that always hits the spot and that you can never get enough of. And all for just €1.19.’
Tuccies!
For a change, not a B- or C-brand, but a top-shelf cracker at a bargain price. Tuc: the familiar, crispy, salted biscuit. Warning once the pack is open: no one has ever managed to stop eating these biscuits. But at this price, you don’t have to hold back; a pack of Tuc costs €0.85. Extra tip: stock up—they’re on special from Monday (2 + 1 freeeeeee!)
Pink cakes
They melt in your mouth and are wonderfully nostalgic (hi Grandma, are you reading this?). That deliciously chemical pink flavor on top of a piece of cake: always a winner. And six for €1.05—also a great deal.
Tortilla chips
As a student, Bo has to watch her spending; for a nacho platter, these chips are her secret ingredient. Into the oven with some grated cheddar, then dip them in homemade guacamole and sour cream. ‘My mouth is already watering, and this bag of tortilla chips only costs €0.79. Win-win!’
Crispy choco’s
Bo: ‘I have to admit, I almost didn’t want to share this, because I’m so afraid they’ll sell out. Then there’ll be tears… But here goes: I couldn’t keep these heavenly crispy choco’s from you. And a bag only costs €2.15 too, thank me later!’
