10x things you find annoying about eating out with friends
There were quite a few reactions to things people find incredibly annoying when eating out with friends. Time for even more food-related annoyances! Because eating with friends is great fun, but apparently things still often go wrong… These are things you apparently find really annoying when eating out with friends. Recognize any?
We agreed on seven o’clock, didn’t we?
They had said beforehand that they couldn’t stay very long, so I said I’d make sure everything was ready when they arrived. I had expensive fish in the oven, and they just turned up forty minutes late. The whole fish was as tough as shoe leather and I was absolutely furious.
Everything from packets
Fine if you cook from packets yourself, but when your friends come over for dinner, surely you make a bit more effort?
What the farmer doesn’t know…
Going out for dinner with friends who don’t want to try anything new and always want to go to the same restaurant. BORINGGGGGG!
Last minute
You agreed months in advance to go somewhere for dinner, and then a week beforehand they want to change restaurants. Because that restaurant is more fun or trendier. But on a Friday night in Amsterdam, that new restaurant is obviously already fully booked.
Changing the entire menu
My friend who ALWAYS wants to modify every dish. Salad with a different dressing, meat with a different sauce… Even in a really busy restaurant. And you can really see the staff thinking, ‘ugh’…
For the group
Eating out with a group and then having someone decide what ‘we’ are going to order. ‘We’ll start with a charcuterie board, and then blah blah blah.’ I’ll decide for myself what I eat!
Paying the bill
Those people who start talking about the bill right after you’ve ordered your first drink. ‘You’re ordering a cocktail now, that’s more expensive than my glass of wine, so we’ll have to take that into account later when we split the bill fairly.’ Okay, cheers… how gezellig…
Rude
My aunt, who is also a good friend of mine, is so rude to the staff. Ordering without making eye contact, always complaining about something. Glass of wine not full enough, fish undercooked, vegetables too soft, meat too heavily seasoned. NOTHING IS EVER RIGHT. When I eat with her, I therefore always arrange to go somewhere I won’t be visiting again, because I’m terribly embarrassed by her complaining at the table.
