It’s thick, it’s green, it’s the ultimate winter comfort food: it’s split pea soup. And it’s that time again! Delicious with rye bread and smoked bacon, old Dutch music in the background and woolly socks on. With my split pea soup slaif at the ready, I spoon every bowl clean. These are the best spots in Amsterdam.

Moeders

If you name your quintessentially Dutch restaurant Moeders, your split pea soup had better be delicious. And it is! They serve thick split pea soup with bacon and sausage from butcher’s shop Louman (a household name in Amsterdam). A delicious start to your Dutch dinner. Will you go for the stamppot or the hachee afterwards?

Ridammerhoeve Goat Farm

A winter walk through the Amsterdamse Bos, watching adorable little goats and ending the day with a bowl of green happiness. Doesn’t that sound like the perfect winter’s day? At the goat farm in the Amsterdamse Bos, you can eat superb split pea soup!

Haesje Claes

At Haesje Claes, they love split pea soup just as much as I do. They love the soup so much that they prepare it all year round. In winter, they let it sit overnight for that truly thick split pea soup result. Add some rye bread and start spooning!
