4 of the best beer spots in Breda

For all the beer lovers out there: this is where you need to be in the pearl of the south.

Dok19
Dok 19 is a household name in Breda. Owner Roger Omers has a beer menu with more than 80 (!) beers. Choice paralysis? I get it, but the home-brewed hop wheat beer ‘Witte Anker’ is absolutely worth trying. You can also upgrade to a ‘Billy’, which comes with an extra shot of lemon genever. Besides this ultimate beer café, De Keuken van Dok has recently opened, so you don’t have to wander endlessly through the city for your tipsy cravings. Excellent beer, check. Food, check. Brabant conviviality, check!
De Boterhal
Right in the middle of the Grote Markt, De Boterhal is impossible to miss. Here, too, you’ll find a gigantic selection of beers, 25 taps and 100 (!!) bottled beers. So the choice here is truly enormous. With new beers every month, regular beer customers always have something new to taste. In its own brewery (St. Joris), they brew beers such as Weerloos Blondje, Witte Geit (witte gij-ut?!) and Dubbele Tong. Had enough beer? Definitely not! They also have beer-tasting platters, you can attend a beer tasting, and even enjoy a beer high tea.
Café De Bruine Pij
A truly traditional brown café obviously cannot be missing from this list. With its terrace right beneath the Grote Kerk, this place is a blessing for the city. De Bruine Pij also has an extensive beer menu (yes, again!). Just like in the good old days, the shells of unshelled peanuts are still scattered across the floor when you enter. But when the church clock strikes midnight, the drinks café transforms into a late-night bar. Bredanaars love coming here.
De Beyerd
Café, restaurant and brewery De Beyerd is a place where Breda’s brewing traditions are still proudly preserved. De Drie Hoefijzers was founded here in 1628; in 2004, the De Jongh family breathed new life into the brewery and transformed De Drie Hoefijzers into De Beyerd. The brewmasters make the various beers according to their own original recipes. This includes the special beer De Drie Hoefijzers Klassiek, as a tribute to its predecessors. And for those who want to do more than just drink beer: tours are also offered, complete with a tasting, and there’s even a beer-tasting competition.
