5 Essential Wine Apps

Which wine is best to serve with tonight’s dinner? Is that one bottle from the cellar already at its best for drinking? These days, you no longer have to be a passionate wine expert to get answers to these questions. And if you are a wine expert, they help you keep your passion alive. These five wine apps are essential for your phone.

Vivino
This will always remain our favorite. Got a delicious bottle in front of you? All you have to do is scan the label. Vivino then lists everything you want to know: grape variety, origin, and even where to buy it. Rate the wines you’ve drunk and Vivino creates a personal taste profile, including recommendations for wines you should try. Your friends can see which wines you’ve tasted and respond to them. Also handy: the app provides an overview of the nearest good wine merchants.
Looking for a delicious vegetable dish? We’ve got your back.
Winestein
Winestein is your personal sommelier. There are two options: enter what you’re going to eat and Winestein gives you suggestions for the best-matching wines. No inspiration for your evening meal? Enter the wine you’re in the mood for and the app will come up with recipes and the best food pairings.
Superwijnen
Wine journalist Harold Hamersma uses his app to tell you which wines best suit your preferences. Indicate the price category you’re looking for and which grape variety you prefer, and Superwijnen gets searching. With a database of more than 1,000 wines, there is always a bottle to be found that meets your requirements. Superwijnen also has the same function as Vivino: scan a wine and immediately receive all the information. Vivino’s database is somewhat larger.
Thirst
Looking for an app that isn’t just about wine, but about all kinds of alcohol? Download Thirst. Keep track of everything you drink that contains alcohol with this app. Create wish lists and inventory lists, and compare prices and offers at different stores.
WineRatings+
This app is for anyone who doesn’t know much about wine yet, but would like to learn more. It is the app from the American magazine Wine Spectator. With the app, you get answers to all your burning questions about wine and everything related to it. You can also see for each region when your wine is best to drink. The app also provides insight into the latest trends: which wines should you buy to impress, and with which wines will you completely miss the mark?
