5 of our fave food documentaries

What’s better than a good movie to break up your week? Or to spend your weekend in bed with instead of going out? And not just any movie—these documentaries will teach you something, too.

For Grace
In this documentary, top chef Curtis Duffy builds his dream restaurant while neglecting his private life. He focuses so much on his career that it costs him his marriage and his children. This documentary takes you through the development of the restaurant and Duffy’s personal life.
Cowspiracy
In this humorous yet hard-hitting documentary, filmmaker Kip Andersen investigates the impact the meat industry has on our environment. A real eye-opener.
Jiro Dreams of Sushi
Few sushi masters are as famous as Jiro Ono. Not only because he owns the Michelin-starred restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro, but especially because of the film made about him and his sons. The documentary shows the hard-working, dedicated life of this Japanese sushi family.
Sour Grapes
My personal favorite from this list. Sour Grapes is about a wealthy Indonesian wine collector who sold millions of bottles of counterfeit wine. The documentary gives you a glimpse into the fascinating world of wine auctions.
Forks over Knives
Personally, I love meat, but I don’t shy away from a critical documentary. Forks over Knives is about eating habits in the Western world and how much better things would be if we ate less meat, fat and modified foods. The documentary makers are clear about their message: we should embrace a plant-based diet.
You can watch all these documentaries on Netflix.
