5 reasons why you want to go to the Nacht van de Wijn

Wine lovers, pay attention: the first edition of the Nacht van de Wijn will take place on 6 and 7 July at Central Studios in Utrecht. From eight in the evening until two at night, swaying, tasting and enjoying are the order of the day. Not convinced yet? Here are 5 reasons why you don’t want to miss it:

Wine for days
The Nacht van de Wijn feels like a (very affordable) trip around the world through all the different wine regions. You can taste more than 150 (!) wines, most of them for just one euro per tasting glass. Um, hello? We’re already ordering an Uber for the way back.
Back to school
For many, it may have been a while since they sat in the classroom. And for even more (hopefully everyone), it will be the first time doing so with a glass of wine. During the Nacht van de Wijn, you can attend the biggest wine lecture in the Netherlands. No textbook full of jargon, but a lesson from none other than wine god Edwin Raben (the Netherlands’ best sommelier three times). When does wine become too old to drink? And how do you read a wine label?
Most popular grape
For the first time, the election for the Netherlands’ most popular wine grape is taking place. You can choose from twenty different grape varieties. Is the merlot grape your favorite? Or would you rather go for the slightly fruitier gamay? You can vote via the website or during the Nacht van de Wijn itself. Make sure you do it in time, because at 0:00 sharp, the winner will be announced.
Hey Mr. D.J.
Do you also always think after a few glasses of red wine that you can DJ better than the DJ? That’s perfect, because during the Nacht van de Wijn, you can help the DJ choose records. You can browse through a huge vinyl collection, pick a record and let the DJ do the rest. Except for the dancing, of course. You’ll have to do that yourself. Get your feet off the floor!
DIY
Perhaps our favorite part of the evening. To blend or not to blend? Well, at the Nacht van de Wijn, we’re definitely going to blend. During the blending workshop, you’ll learn how to make your own wine in one evening. The workshop is led by Reto Jörg from the Portuguese winery Quinta do Quetzal. He is coming all the way from Portugal especially to give the workshop.
