6 microwave hacks that come in super handy

The microwave is always useful. Except, of course, when the most horrific things happen inside it because of your own carelessness, but generally speaking, it’s a great appliance to have at your disposal. Especially when you discover even more microwave hacks that make life easier:

Because the microwave itself is obviously already the ultimate hack, meaning you don’t have to deal with a pan of hot oil when you want popcorn, or a steamer basket when you want to reheat rice, and you don’t even have to turn on the oven to roast nuts. And you can also do the following in the microwave…
Peeling garlic
Fresh garlic is indispensable in many kitchens (and sometimes jarred garlic will do). Peeling cloves can be a tricky job, especially when the garlic is very fresh and the skin keeps sticking. I haven’t tested this myself, but apparently heating garlic cloves in the microwave for twenty seconds makes the skin easier to remove.
Making chips
Super handy, and healthier than deep-frying. Slice a peeled potato (very carefully!) into thin slices using a mandoline. Rinse them under the tap and pat them thoroughly dry, toss them in a bowl with olive oil and salt, and arrange them on a plate or microwave-safe dish. Microwave for three minutes, turn them over, then microwave for another three minutes, and you’ll have homemade chips.
Making an omelet
For a simple omelet, crack two eggs into a small deep plate or a shallow dish with raised edges. Beat them with a little milk, pepper and salt, then microwave for two minutes at 600 watts. Couldn’t be easier!
Cooking bacon
This is a top trick: Place slices or strips of bacon between two layers of paper towel on a plate. Heat for three minutes on the highest setting, and you’ll have deliciously crisp bacon with remarkably little splattering.
Baked (sweet) potato
Scrub a potato or sweet potato thoroughly under the tap, pat it dry and prick holes in it with a fork or carefully with a sharp knife. Microwave on the highest setting for five to seven minutes and you’ll have a soft, fluffy baked potato. Cut it open, fill it with toppings and your easy dinner is ready.
Juicy lemon
A citrus fruit that is hard and therefore probably difficult to squeeze? Microwave it for about 15 seconds before cutting it in half, and the juice will come out more easily.
