6 tips for the tastiest Aperol Spritz

The Aperol Spritz is one of the tastiest and, above all, easiest cocktails ever. But however simple the recipe may seem, there are always a few finishing touches that ensure your homemade Aperol Spritz tastes just as delicious as the one made by the best bartender in the world. Follow these tips from expert and bartender Michele Alfonso, and make the perfect Aperol Spritz every time.

The way to the tastiest Aperol Spritz
1. Always use prosecco. After all, you’re making an Italian cocktail. Plus, prosecco has a slightly fruitier and sweeter taste than other sparkling wines, which is why it works best in combination with Aperol.
2. Use a highball glass. Many people serve the spritz in a wine or cocktail glass. However, it’s better to serve the cocktail in a highball glass because its tall shape helps preserve the bubbles in the prosecco. In a wine or cocktail glass, the bubbles disappear more quickly.
3. Chilled is better. Always keep Aperol in the fridge; the cocktail will taste so much better!
4. Add the ice and prosecco first, followed by the Aperol. This prevents the Aperol from settling at the bottom of the glass, and mixing the ingredients in this order also combines them better.
5. Although an orange wedge is the traditional way to serve an Aperol Spritz, you can also opt for a lemon wedge for an extra-fresh taste. Olives also pair well with prosecco—if you’d like to give the drink a savory twist.
6. Last but not least, and perhaps the most important tip of all: the 3-2-1 method. Always use 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and 1 part sparkling water. That way, the proportions are always right!
