7 of these things you can eat, but do you really want to?

With these dishes, it’s not a question of whether you can eat them, but whether you want to. For the real badasses among us. The saying “just act normal, that’s crazy enough” doesn’t apply to these dishes. What’s the most remarkable thing you’ve ever eaten?

Akutaq
Aku-what? Akutaq means mixed, and that’s certainly what this Alaskan ice cream is. Kind of like a McFlurry, but with berries, water (or snow) and – yes indeed – mixed fish or reindeer fat. Desserts don’t go to your stomach, but to your heart. This one too?

Chicken sashimi
Sushi lovers, take note! In Japan, they really do dare to try it: chicken sashimi. The chicken is grilled very briefly, but remains genuinely raw on the inside. According to the Japanese, it’s perfectly safe as long as it’s absolutely fresh. Despite everything we’ve learned to the contrary, Emma dared to try it, this is what she thought of it.

Durian
At first glance, this fruit from Asia doesn’t seem to belong in this list. Durian, better known as – yes indeed – stink fruit, has earned its place thanks to its strong smell. So strong, in fact, that it’s banned in some public places. Eating durian by the pool on your hotel lounger? An absolute no-go.

Fugu
This is one of those dishes that makes us wonder: is it worth it? Fugu is the Japanese name for pufferfish. Poisonous pufferfish, to be precise. Chefs receive special training to prepare this fish, and are only then allowed to make it. The most important task: removing the poison. So if you decide to try it, make sure you haven’t fallen out with the chef.

Donut burger
Donuts? Bring them on! And a deliciously fried burger goes down well too. But a combination of the two? In the United States, it’s a thing. A juicy, savory burger between a bun made from a sweet glazed donut. Are we seeing a new caramel-and-sea-salt trend emerging here?

Coffee can, everything can
We can appreciate this old-fashioned preservation method. Canned tuna or tomatoes are not only convenient, but also absolutely delicious. In the United States, they take it one step further. There, they pull entire loaves of bread, oysters and even whole chickens out of cans.

Squid ink
Jet-black food has been a #foodtrend for a while now. But where does that black color come from? To make food black, people use charcoal, food coloring or – we already hinted at it – squid ink. That’s how pasta is often colored in restaurants, and a restaurant in Tokyo has even created its own burger sauce using the stuff. #anythingforthephoto or not?
