7x the healthiest snacks for drinks and as a snack

Eating a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner is never particularly difficult for me — I usually have plenty of inspiration to cook and make healthy dishes. My danger lies in snacking. Because I love snacking, and especially during drinks I can keep on eating. That’s the thing with snacking; not even because you’re hungry, but often (at least in my case) it’s also purely to pass the time. But how can you make it a little healthier?

That’s why I decided to look into healthier snacks; because if you want to eat something in between meals, or serve something during drinks, there are so many more options than crisps and nuts. Of course, we’ve known that for a long time, but when it comes to inspiration, it’s often still difficult. So I’ve listed 7 healthy snacks for you!
The healthiest snacks for in between meals
1. Roasted chickpeas
This is the editorial team’s favourite healthy snack here, and you can find the recipe here. What I personally love about this is that you don’t get tired of it quickly; you can really add any spices you like. Garlic, Cajun, paprika or Mexican… All delicious. And wait a minute: it’s also a snack you can have if you want to lose weight. BONUS.
2. Apple slices with peanut butter
Peanut butter is high in fat, but full of healthy fats — if you eat it in moderation. Apples are full of fibre, which makes this an ideal snack between meals. Preferably use peanut butter made from 100 per cent nuts, as that is the healthiest option.
3. Celery, carrots or cucumber with blue cheese dressing
This is currently my standard go-to snack, and especially if, like me, you’re a cheese lover, it’s absolutely perfect. I personally like vegetables with some bite, but tomatoes work too, for example. The annoying thing is that blue cheese dressing is still difficult to find in supermarkets, but you’ll probably find it in American supermarkets, or otherwise: try online, and you’re sure to succeed.
4. Edamame beans
Of course, you shouldn’t cover them in kilos of salt, but edamame beans are otherwise perfectly fine. They’re full of fibre, and because you have to shell them, you eat less of them (at least, that’s my personal experience). Are they really healthy? Yes, but not always. Just check out this article about soybeans.
5. Pear slices with ricotta
Have you ever tried this combination? If not, give it a chance, because it’s really delicious. Especially if you prefer sweet snacks, this could well be a winner for you. Deliciously soft too, thanks to both the pear and the ricotta, of course.
6. Half a spicy avocado
It sounds so simple, but it’s genuinely delicious: cut half an avocado into cubes, add some olive oil, chilli peppers and just a tiny bit of salt, and scoop it straight from the skin. Very filling and very tasty!
7. Popcorn
If you really want an easy, salty snack, reach for popcorn instead of crisps. The very best thing is to make your own popcorn, because then you control how much salt you add — the ready-made version can contain quite a lot. Three average servings of popcorn contain 100 calories, so that’s really not too bad.
