If you want to bring food to the table and the table guests are so deeply engrossed in conversation that they make no room for you at all. You stand there with three full plates in your hands, doing your best to push all the phones aside… and people still remain bent over the table for their pleasant little chats. Manoeuvring yourself into all kinds of awkward positions and entering guests personal space to serve the foodI dont miss that right now.

People who come and stand practically next to you behind the bar to pay. Dear guests, you dont have to pay at the till anymore, you knownowadays we have mobile card machines.
Awkward handshake
Sometimes guests are so happy with the service that they shake your hand after paying. Fine, nice, thats allowed. But sometimes that handshake goes on for far too long. There you are, at the bar, hand in hand with a complete stranger, talking about how good the food was. Lovely and awkward.
You could just ask nicely, you know
On busy days, during a large drinks gathering or when Ajax is playing, you lift a full tray of beer above your head and need to get past. Excuse me… Sir, may I get past for a moment? At some point your fingers cramp up, and after asking three times and tapping people on the shoulders, when nobody still moves aside, you raise your voice: SORRY! I need to get past! Then you get angry looks and the comment, you could just ask nicely, you know. AAARGH!
Dont touch me
Guests who want to order and then grab you by the arm as you walk past. Guests touching you at all when they want to order. Make eye contact, talk to me or, if necessary, subtly raise your hand, but you really dont need to touch me.
Drinks gatherings
Personally, I hate large drinks gatherings in the caf. They take over the entire place! Corporate drinks gatherings are the worst. Walking around with those bowls of snacks past employees who are delighted to get something for free, so they run at me like hyenas as soon as they see me leave the kitchen. After one minute, the bowl is emptyexcept, of course, for the last bitterball, which nobody dares to takeand then they ask me, with that disgusting mustard breath, when the next one is coming.
Children on leashes
Children running around. Awful! Because many parents simply dont intervene. They like their children behaving as they do at home. But at home there isnt staff walking around with full trays, and there arent other guests sitting in the living room either. In a one-and-a-half-metre society, I advocate the right to refuse children at the door. And if thats not possible, put them on a leash!
Nobody can smell it
I actually dont like anything about the one-and-a-half-metre society. I even think the advantages suck. Yes, okay, you can finally just fart at work. Thats the only thing.
