8x Things People Do in Restaurants That Are Bloody Irritating

It’s wonderful, isn’t it, that we can FINALLY eat out again or have a drink at the pub. And maybe this is also the perfect moment to dredge up all the irritations my colleagues and I had back when we still worked in hospitality. Want to make the lifting of the lockdown a celebration for everyone.. read and learn.

These are the things restaurant guests do that the front-of-house staff absolutely hate.
1. Crying children in restaurants—and parents who do nothing about it

Please make them stop!
2. No, we’re not dogs; snapping your fingers is a no-go too
Do you do that at home too? No, I didn’t think so. Better not do it anywhere else either, okay?
3. Just like blatantly flirting with the staff—especially not when your partner is there
This is simply never okay.
4. And while we’re on the subject: leave the touching out of it too
Same thing. Better not.
5. Coming in a few minutes before closing time and expecting to still get a three-course dinner; seriously?
The hospitality industry is very welcoming and we’ll always do everything we can to make the guest happy. Did I say always? I mean: almost always. In this case: actually never.
6. If you come in and choose a table yourself, PLEASE don’t pick one we still have to clean

This table: don’t take it, okay? Just wait a little while.
7. Only having a limited amount of time yourself, but still expecting everything to fit your schedule
But if you ask very nicely, we’ll always see how we can help you as best we can.
8. Complaining loudly when you see that the whole place is packed

You get it, I would really love to take all of this for granted right now! But when the hospitality industry opens again… you’ve been warned.
