Albert Heijn now also charges a deposit on all plastic bottles of fresh juice
Buying fruit or vegetable juice at Albert Heijn? From next week onwards, you’ll pay a deposit on all fresh juices and smoothies from Albert Heijn’s own brand.
Albert Heijn previously said goodbye to the ‘vest bags’; the free plastic bags in the fruit and vegetable section. They have been replaced by sustainable fresh produce bags. These are washable and can be used dozens of times.
And now the next step has been taken in reducing plastic. Albert Heijn is voluntarily introducing a deposit on all plastic fresh juice and smoothie bottles from its own brand. Voluntary, yes, because these products are not yet subject to a statutory deposit requirement.
Reusable
According to the supermarket, this will ensure that more plastic bottles are collected and recycled properly. Because the bottles have recently been made from 100% recycled plastic and are now also included in the deposit-return system, they can be used again and again for new recycled bottles, meaning no new plastic is needed.
