Always a hit: the 50 best pizzas in Europe

When an Italian organization announces a competition to determine the 50 best pizzas in Europe, you know they mean business. I mean, that’s surely just a little more weighty than when, say, Sweden presents a pizza award… Which of course isn’t to say that they don’t know good food in Sweden, but just as we in the Netherlands don’t hand out awards for Swedish meatballs, we take an Italian verdict on pizza most seriously. And that’s why we’re absolutely delighted with this list! And, well… Italy itself obviously didn’t take part in the competition, because the fact that they make the best pizzas anyway is, naturally, beyond question for the country where pizza originated.

Not only does the Netherlands make a remarkably strong showing with a fairly high ranking, we now also know where to go anywhere in Europe for the best pizza on our continent. Whether you get a pizza craving in Copenhagen, Riga, Ljubljana, Brussels, London, Paris or Madrid, according to 50 Top Pizza Europe 2022 (the world’s most influential pizza guide), you’ll absolutely get your money’s worth at these pizzerias:

The winner sits firmly at the top
First prize goes to Peppe Pizzeria in Paris. The pizzeria owned by Italian Peppe Cutraro can even call itself the best in Europe for the second year in a row. Second place goes to Fratelli Figurato in Madrid, followed by 50 Kalò in London, and then we happily skip ahead to number 11: Nnea in Amsterdam! Yes! If you read FavorFlav regularly, you may already have known that this is an unbelievably good pizzeria, because we sang its praises here before.
And apparently the Italian experts agree. The first 25 places also compete for a spot among the 100 Best Pizzerias in the world, an awards ceremony taking place in New York in mid-June. You’ve got this, Nnea!

So this top-50 ranking is incredibly useful and can immediately serve as a guide. Never again will you set out in Europe only to suffer the misfortune of a bad, soggy pizza. Your city trips can only get better!
