Eyes closed at checkout: this is the most expensive pizza in the world
We can probably agree that pizza culture in the Netherlands has made huge strides forward in recent years, and that the improvement in quality (there are now so many great pizza makers in our country!) has also made us feel that it’s normal to pay a little more for quality. What you’re willing (or able) to pay for a pizza can of course vary, but that’s still nothing compared with this extravaganza…
Because the most expensive pizza in the world (as far as we know at the moment) falls into a price range that would probably give the average pizza lover a heart attack. If you already flinch at the thought of a twenty-euro pizza, there’s not much chance you’ll have pizzaiolo Renato Viola come over to prepare this pizza for you on the spot:
Will it be a pizza or a car?
In Italy (and only in Italy, because Renato will prepare this at your home or on your million-dollar yacht) you can now order a pizza that will leave you €8,300 poorer. No joke, it’s actually on the website of this Master Pizza Chef. And of course he doesn’t get away with a few slices of factory-made pepperoni; the list of ingredients adds up to an amount for which you could buy a car. For that price, he also brings along a sommelier and a chef, by the way.
Almost a Sun King
So what’s on this ultra-luxury pizza, which bears the name Louis XIII Very Expensive Pizza (haha!)? No fewer than three types of caviar, shrimp from the coast of Salerno, and lobster. The salt used also gets a special mention, because Australian Pink Salt from the Murray River is apparently exceptionally special.

And what you’re paying for as well: Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac (which also lends the pizza its name), Krug Champagne and Cardenal Mendoza brandy, which apparently complete this insanely expensive experience. Oh yes, chef Renato himself lives in Miami Beach, and the price is for baking on location in Italy, so hopefully the plane ticket is included.
