In these Dutch cities, the most salami pizza is eaten (and more noteworthy pizza news)

Today is National Pizza Day, and Deliveroo thought it would be a good time to delve into the data archives: which pizza does the Netherlands like best? And what do we really think of Hawaiian pizza?

That the Dutch love pizza is crystal clear: it is the most ordered dish on Deliveroo. A little boring, though: pizza margherita turns out to be the firm favorite. Now, a three-course meal on a pizza is of course a bit excessive, but where is the pepperoni? Where is the pizza with anchovies? How come loaded fries can’t be crazy enough, while the good old pizza isn’t topped a little more generously? So many questions… And what also strikes me is that margherita is especially popular in Amsterdam, but also in The Hague, Utrecht and Eindhoven.
Salami and mushrooms
But the expression less is more doesn’t apply to everyone. In Rotterdam, Haarlem and Tilburg, things get a little more exciting. There, pizza with salami is particularly popular. On Deliveroo, mushrooms and jalapeños are most often added as extra pizza toppings at checkout. And to put an end to the eternal debate about whether pineapple belongs on pizza: the majority of Dutch people (61%) don’t think it’s that strange. WHAAAATTT???
Thin versus thick
Okay, I do understand this: three-quarters would rather have an Italian pizza with a thin crust than a thick American pizza. However, most people (76%) aren’t interested in a cold pizza, and the same goes for cutlery: 64 percent prefer to use their hands when eating pizza—and my father isn’t even included in that figure; he eats rusks with a knife and fork too.
