America vs. Australia: these are the biggest culture shocks
The first time I went to America, I didn’t know where to look. Everything was so big. The buildings, the roads, the enormous nature reserves, and yes: the food and drinks also came in massive portions. I was still in my teens at the time and could (WHY don’t I have that anymore?) eat whatever I wanted without gaining weight, so you can imagine my delight when I ordered a pizza… and then got one that was seriously four times the size of my head. Pure bliss.
But of course, as an American, you’re already used to all of this. And I can imagine that the shock is even greater the other way around: thinking that everything is really tiny everywhere. That’s what happened to this American, who moved to Australia.
Huh? No tipping in Australia?!
I also learned something right away, because apparently people don’t tip in Australia. And that’s while restaurant staff in America literally have to make ends meet from tips, because their salary is truly negligible. So you can imagine the shock Kaymie Wuerfel felt when she found out that restaurant staff in Australia simply receive a NORMAL salary. Crazy…
