An Ode to the Village Caterer

When you live in the city, everything is within reach and there’s always something to do. But you don’t need any of that when you live in a village with a fantastic caterer. A good village caterer provides culinary pleasure, convenience, and, last but not least, a connection to the local community. So here’s an ode to my village caterer (with the tastiest borrelplanken in Noord-Holland!)

Leo and Diana are the heroes of my Saturday. And not just of Saturday, by the way, nor are they just my heroes. With their candy store for grown-ups, called Taste of Landsmeer, they’ve brought not only lots of conviviality to our village, but also an abundance of delicious food. I previously wrote a paean to Leo’s grandmother’s braised chicken—a silky-soft dish that warms your heart with every bite—and his aunt’s rendang. People are happy to drive for miles for this, because this rendang is better than what you’ll find at many an Indonesian restaurant.
Whether I’ve had a busy day or simply don’t feel like cooking, Taste of Landsmeer’s dishes are restaurant quality and made exclusively with the finest ingredients, fresh from the farm. That’s not only good for the flavor, but also for the local economy (and for the culinary snobs I live with—perhaps the village caterer is the secret to my happy marriage).
The tastiest borrelplanken
Besides the wonderful meals Leo makes and Diana slides across the counter with inexhaustible enthusiasm, they sell a selection of the best cold cuts from butcher Louman, the tastiest olive oils and most beautiful pastas, juicy olives, wines, bubbles imported by themselves, and fantastic borrelplanken in various sizes. Basically everything that makes your culinary heart beat faster, including lovely little bowls, plates and who knows what else, because every week I see new things. That’s what I love about it too: the ever-changing selection.
Always convivial
But the very best thing: it’s always convivial at my village caterer. Leo and Diana love good food just as much as you and I do and can talk about it for hours, whether it’s unusual ingredients and cooking methods or new discoveries at home and abroad. It feels as if you’re sitting with friends in your favorite café—new customers come and go and everyone happily joins in the conversation—and time flies. I always leave happier than when I arrived, with a bag full of goodies for the ultimate weekend feeling.
Do you also need a dose of genuine conviviality and a bag full of goodies? Take the ‘Landsmeer’ exit on the A10 or cycle from Amsterdam-Noord straight into Landsmeer and make the most of it. You’ll find Taste of Landsmeer at Zuideinde 2B. #nospon #justlove #voordedorpstraiteur
