Animalishly delicious CowGum

dav

You can chew on this piece of meat forever. That may not sound very appealing, but this is actually a piece of chewing gum. According to its makers, CowGum will remind you of a perfectly cooked entrecôte or steak.

The chewing gum was created by FoodUp! Brabant. On March 28, they are opening Slagerij de Hamvraag in collaboration with Food Cabinet and Ruigwerk. The key question: what is the value behind meat? You will learn about the ups and downs of Brabant’s meat production. The initiative is intended to make people think about their meat consumption. Do you always consciously choose whether or not to eat meat?

The organization

All three organizations are involved in food-related issues. Through projects, they hope to contribute to the food system and get people thinking. FoodUp! Brabant does this with people who all have a passion for the fair origins of products. Food Cabinet specializes in turning ideas into projects. Ruigwerk says it has made playing with food its profession.

What you can do
In the specially designed butcher shop, you can make your own kiloknallers or  sausages. You can taste products from Brabant’s professional butchers and then ask them everything you’ve always wanted to know.

Various demonstrations and lectures will also be given. Among others, Marijn Frank, documentary maker and presenter of the program Keuringsdienst van Waarde, will be interviewed about her documentary Vleesverlangen. She will be asked why we find it so difficult to eat less meat.

Curious what CowGum actually tastes like? Online, you have a chance to receive one of the first hundred samples at home.
