Anne Frank bowl from Blond Amsterdam suddenly a hit on Marktplaats

Blond Amsterdam recently came under considerable fire. The reason? They had a new collection that also included a bowl featuring an image of Anne Frank. She is depicted on the bowl as a smiling girl with a book (her diary, I assume). Pretty inappropriate, virtually everyone thought — and Blond Amsterdam ultimately agreed and withdrew the bowl from sale.

And that has suddenly made it a hit on Marktplaats, because once the bowls were withdrawn from sale, they were suddenly seen as a rare item.

100 euros for the Anne Frank bowl

The amounts being offered are no joke either: people are offering as much as 100 euros for the bowl. And not everyone agrees with Blond Amsterdam’s decision, because one seller writes: ‘It has been withdrawn from sale and is no longer available, which I think is nonsense, but oh well.’ It’s striking that this person thinks it’s nonsense, but has no problem making a substantial profit from it.

Blond Amsterdam does not want to profit from it anymore, by the way: they have stated that they will donate the proceeds from this bowl to charity. Now that’s some good damage control.
