Hotspots

At these 7 hotspots, you do more than just eat

Cut Throat

They’re called slashers: food and drink spots that do more than simply serve good food and drinks. From restaurants that are also arcades to bars where you can have your beard trimmed: these are the seven ultimate slashers.

Cut Throat – restaurant / bar / barber

One of Amsterdam’s best-known slashers. After having your beard trimmed, sip a tropical cocktail with your jerk chicken and cassava fries. And damn, those cassava fries are delicious! Also try the vegan jackfruit curry. All of this on the gigantic terrace at Beursplein. The go-to place for an injection of coolness, even if you don’t have a beard. We’re fans!

The Ping Pong Club – table tennis / board game café / restaurant

For all your games of ‘around the table’: The Ping Pong Club. When friends John, Jan Joost and Thijs had opened Gajes in de Bajes escape room, they thought they had no more dreams left to pursue. Until the idea of a table tennis club came along. Besides hitting a ball around, you can also play a board game, hang out on the terrace and eat spicy Arabic mezze and snacks in the HTMU warehouse.

Mooie Boules – food court / pétanque

Oui, oui! Pétanque is fun! And certainly not only if you’re retired and live in France. In Amsterdam and Rotterdam, you can throw a few boules at Mooie Boules. Between throws, order food at the stands from Ron Blaauw, Ron de Jong of Bokaal and BAUT’s Michiel van der Eerde. Add a beer, and have a ball!

TonTon Club – arcade hall / restaurant

Vintage pinball machines, nostalgic board games and obscure Japanese arcade games come together with Asian snacks and comfort food at TonTon Club. You’ll find this arcade-hall-plus in Amsterdam-West and in the city centre. Tip: For dessert, combine a game of Jenga with a boozy milkshake.

FC Hyena – restaurant / cinema / wine bar

The tastiest cinema is in Amsterdam-Noord. FC Hyena is a cinema, wine bar and petit restaurant all in one, where drinks and food are allowed in the screening room. Vin naturel and natural ciders are almost always available by the glass. And the dishes? They come from the wood-fired oven.

Chin Chin Club – club / restaurant / karaoke

Do you think you’re the new Beyoncé after a few drinks? Then you’ll feel right at home at Chin Chin Club. This club-& doesn’t just serve a delicious Asian bite during dinner; when night falls, you can swap the dance floor for a spot of karaoke. Not blessed with a honeyed voice? Try your hand at an old-school video game instead.

Supperclub – restaurant / show

The golden girl among slash concepts: Supperclub. Since 1993, the club on Amsterdam’s Singel has combined dining with a feast for the eyes. An added bonus: you can claim you’re getting into bed early while still spending the whole night at the club. As you flop down on the bed, a five-course dinner unfolds with 260-degree visuals and spectacular shows.
