Bad news: Ron Blaauw’s Gastrobar Indonesia Downtown has to close

As a result of Hudson’s Bay’s bankruptcy, the beautiful restaurant Ron Gastrobar Indonesia Downtown will have to close its doors from 1 March 2020. What a shame, because at the Rokin you can enjoy delicious street food from Indonesian and Dutch-Indonesian cuisine.

“With a heavy heart, I have no choice but to say that Hudson’s Bay’s bankruptcy brings so much legal trouble and uncertainty that it has become impossible for us to continue,” Ron Blaauw announced via Instagram.
Landlord wants empty premises
As a result of Hudson’s Bay’s bankruptcy, the administrators terminated the lease agreement with the landlord. Downtown, in turn, was a tenant of Hudson’s Bay. As a consequence of the termination of Hudson’s Bay’s lease agreement, the lease agreement with Downtown will also end as of 1 March this year. “We did everything in our power to conclude a direct lease agreement with the landlord, but unfortunately this did not succeed. The landlord wants the entire building empty, so Downtown also has to pack up and leave.”
Ron Blaauw told Het Parool that he would first process the news of the closure before deciding whether Indonesia Downtown would continue at another location.
Already made a reservation?
If you already have a reservation for after 1 March, you will be contacted and offered an alternative at one of the other Ron Gastrobars. With a generous gesture to make up for it.
