Best news of the day: a glass of wine is equivalent to an hour of sweating at the gym

Of course, to get fit you can go to the gym every day again later and sweat your ass off, but you can also simply open a bottle of red wine. Huh, what? How does that work? Colleague Lilian from Amayzine was kind enough to look into it in detail.

And what do you think? Research has shown that one glass of red wine is equivalent to an hour of sweating at the gym, and it all has to do with the substance resveratrol, an antioxidant that is mainly found in the seeds, stems and skins of grapes. According to researchers at the University of Alberta, this substance has a similar effect on your body as exercise.
How about an extra glass?
The substance makes your muscles stronger, improves heart function and also improves your physical performance. In addition to all these benefits, resveratrol is also said to have a beneficial effect on your metabolism, and according to the researchers it could even help prevent heart disease and cancer. Surprisingly good for you, then, a glass of red wine.
Small side note: so far, the research has only been conducted on rats. According to the researchers, the effect could be the same in humans. Well, in any case, that’s good enough for us. So forget the gym, squats and jumping jacks—just have a glass of red wine tonight.
