Watch out: these are the 3 GROSSEST SUPERMARKET SNACKS of 2021

vegan zeastar

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This time, Snackspert looks back on his snack adventures from last year—read and shudder, because it wasn’t always easy…

Mango fritters from Lidl

Dear travelers. You have reached the bottom, the bottom of this page, that is. This cannot be, this must not be, this is not what we want. A deep-fried mango from Lidl that tastes more like a mix between an oliebol and a very soft mango your uncle has just been farting on for 41 minutes does not belong in your mouth. I hereby offer my sincere apologies for the commotion caused. ⭐️

Red curry Pepsels from Bolletje

I surely can’t be the only one who can eat a bag of salty sticks/pepsels within five minutes. Serve them at a birthday party and I swear, I’ll finish the entire bag. A real classic, that snack. That’s why I was already a little worried when I got my hands on these limited-edition red curry-flavored pepsels from Bolletje. In what scenario could this ever be tasty? Red curry with salty sticks—you wouldn’t ask Matthijs van Nieuwkerk to present the show Shownieuws either, would you? And the taste is truly gross, so incredibly dry. Dry red curry—if you get that in a restaurant, you have every right to ask for your money back. This is absolutely nothing, a terrible snack that I hope sells out very quickly because the limited edition is over. ⭐️

Vegan Zeastar Kalamariz from the Vegan Junk Food Bar

Let’s hope this vegan snack from Vegan ZeaStar (from the Vegan Junk Food Bar, you know) isn’t a bad omen for 2021, because I could tell an entire story about these vegan calamari, but they are downright disappointing. First of all: there are no cooking instructions, so I have no idea whether they should be deep-fried, air-fried (is that a word?) or baked, because for heaven’s sake, there’s nothing on the packaging. And at what temperature, then? I know a little about preparing snacks myself, but once they came out of the air fryer (after 8 minutes at 200 degrees), they were ugly, dry and tasted extremely plasticky. The crust was okay, but far too thin. It really wasn’t tasty; I don’t understand why they put an incomplete product like this on the market. You wouldn’t put Max Verstappen on the F1 track if one of the wheels was still missing, would you? Exactly. ⭐️
