Bizarre: Indian YouTuber makes curry with… peacock meat (and it’s going to cost him dearly)

We recently wrote about the perfect curry and how you can ruin it. A good lesson that goes with it: use the right meat. Not peacock meat, for example, should that suddenly occur to you. An Indian YouTuber turned this bizarre idea into reality, and now he’s going to pay the price.

The main reason for his punishment: the blue peacock is a protected species in India. It is a national symbol and is seriously threatened. There used to be countless blue peacocks roaming around India, but now they are rarely seen. Plenty of reason to keep your hands off the poor creature, but YouTuber Kodam Pranay Kumar clearly thought otherwise.

Curry with peacock – uh… chicken

Kumar made a video in which it became clear that he had made a curry with peacock meat – which he then ate. The newspaper The Times of India. reported this. Kumar initially denied his bizarre act. According to him, it was only mentioned in the video’s title ‘for promotional purposes’. The YouTuber says he put chicken in his curry, not peacock meat.

It turned out none of that was true. Local authorities confiscated the curry leftovers from his home, along with his phone. His phone already contained clear evidence that Kumar had indeed prepared peacock meat. To provide 100% certainty, the curry leftovers were sent to a lab. If it turns out to be undeniably peacock meat, the YouTuber has a major problem. He will probably be facing a very long prison sentence.

The tastiest (peacock-free) curry recipes

No, peacock meat is clearly not the secret ingredient for making your curry a success. I shudder at the idea, and to get it out of my head, I went looking for other curry recipes. I’ll have this (vegetarian) mango curry, for example. Or this delicious yellow cauliflower curry with roasted chickpeas. In the mood for curry with meat (but obviously not peacock)? Then I recommend this chicken curry with sweet potatoes. See, Kumar? Nobody ever thought it was a good idea to put peacock meat in curry, so just leave those birds in peace.
