Brilliant: Churandy Martina launches express delivery service with runners
Lightning-fast and cheerful Churandy Martina is launching a new express delivery service. And no, it’s not yet another delivery service with bicycle couriers. Entirely in Churandy’s style (Dutch record holder in the 60 metres and five-time Olympic athlete), your groceries will be delivered by runners.

The word ‘runners’ in the assortment suddenly takes on a whole different meaning, because starting tomorrow (1 February 2022), after a pilot, the first orders can be placed via the Churundy app (funny play on words, did you get it?) The groceries will be delivered in Amsterdam (bringing the number of delivery services in the capital to five). Within four months, The Hague, Groningen, Rotterdam and Utrecht will also take their turn.
Every second counts
‘With the growing popularity of both express delivery services and running, I saw a healthy gap in the market. As an athlete, I am trained to know that every second counts, and I am carrying that vision through into my new start-up,’ says Churandy. Churundy is working with Superunie, a cooperative that handles purchasing for supermarkets such as Deen, Plus, Spar and Coop. Superunie supplies Churundy with the groceries, which are stored in warehouses throughout the city.
No piece of cake
Not everything is suitable for running transport; even though bags are used to protect the products from bumps, not everything can be delivered. ‘For example, you won’t find eggs in our assortment,’ press officer Patricia Bruens tells LevensmiddelenKrant. The maximum weight the couriers will carry is 5 kilos per delivery. The timeframe within which the couriers will deliver has not yet been announced, but it is certain that the couriers are in good shape.
Riedel??
Is it really not a joke? LevensmiddelenKrant asked Churundy’s spokesperson that question several times, but the spokesperson stuck to their story: the running express couriers would really provide their customers with groceries – supplied by Superunie, no less. But a day later, it turns out to be primarily a PR stunt. From glassware brand Riedel. We didn’t make that connection even after the reveal, but it is amusing nonetheless.
