Chef and culinary writer recommends favorite kitchen tool and now we want one too

Of course, it’s fun to bring home a super-authentic, locally hand-carved wooden kitchen tool from a faraway trip and then indulge in nostalgic memories while stirring nasi at home. But a plastic container your mother bought at a Tupperware party in the eighties can make you just as nostalgic (for sure, because Tupperware parties are a thing of the past forever). Or, in this case: a silicone multi purpose spatula!

That’s what Megan Lloyd, a former chef and now culinary writer, explains. She has fond memories of baking with her mother, and when she moved into student housing, she received exactly the same spatula her mother had been using for years. The ideal combination of spatula, spoon, jar scraper and scraper, according to her…
Indestructible
The spatula is from the Pampered Chef brand and is called the ‘Mix N’ Scraper. According to Lloyd, it’s like a third hand: for folding firm dough, transferring cheesecake batter into a springform pan (try making an Aperol cheesecake!), and scraping the last bits out of a bowl.
In the twenty years Megan’s mother has used the spatula, it hasn’t been damaged even once. It’s heat-resistant, with a perfectly ergonomic handle, a slight hollow (like a spoon), a thin edge for scraping everything out of a jar or pan, and straight corners for reaching every corner of, for example, a cake tin. Handy!
The super spatula can be ordered through Amazon (the US site, not the Dutch one), but in most cases they also ship to the Netherlands. Otherwise, try giving your local kitchenware store employee a sweet look and ask whether they can order one for you!
