You’ve probably heard of ‘hard seltzer’ before, as this drink is about to conquer the world. But why exactly, and what does Coca-Cola’s taste like?

Hard seltzer is a category of drinks all of its own. They are low in alcohol and made with sparkling water, alcohol, and a (fruit) flavor. In America, it’s a huge hit! In 2019, hard seltzer generated $1.2 billion in sales there, and this is expected to nearly triple in 2021. Hard seltzer is especially popular among millennials. This is partly because it contains very little or no sugar, meaning it has fewer calories than soft drinks. And you can simply buy it at the supermarket.

Topo Chico

Coca-Cola Netherlands is jumping on this trend and launching Topo Chico Hard Seltzer. It is the first time Coca-Cola has sold an alcoholic drink in the Netherlands. This drink was already launched on the Latin American market last September. And if you’re now thinking, ‘Huh, why there of all places?’: Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is inspired by the 125-year-old Topo Chico brand, the sparkling mineral water that has long been a popular mixer for bartenders and mixologists in the US and Latin America.

96 calories

Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is already mixed; all you have to do is pour it into a glass with (lots of) ice. Three flavors are available: Tangy Lemon Lime, Tropical Mango, and Cherry Açai. A can of Topo Chico Hard Seltzer contains 33 cl, is gluten-free, contains 96 calories and two grams of sugar, and has an alcohol content of 4.7%.
