If there is anyone in the Netherlands who knows French cuisine inside out, it’s Alain. From a classic onion soup from Central France to the most delicious Parisian-style pork chops and Southern French coquilles Saint-Jacques from the oven; Alain can handle it all. And for the Christmas cooking workshop, he pulls out all the stops to get into the French festive spirit with you.

Alain Caron knows exactly how to make such a delicious French dish

C’est bon, tell me more!

Via a livestream, you will prepare a fantastic three-course menu for 4 people together with Alain Caron, accompanied by Pays d’Oc IGP wines. You will receive a meal box and wine package in advance. But before that happens, you do have to do something.

Whoa, not so fast. What are Pays d’Oc wines?

You probably drink Pays d’Oc very often. One in ten bottles of French wine comes from Pays d’Oc, and in the Netherlands, 20% of French wine imports originate from Pays d’Oc IGP vineyards. Incidentally, Pays d’Oc is not a region, but a collective name for wines from Southern France’s Languedoc-Roussillon that, according to French wine laws, do not ‘meet’ the criteria for the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) there.

Not because they are inferior wines, certainly not! I love them! But they are often made from non-native grapes, in other words: grape varieties that officially do not belong there, such as chardonnay – you know, that famous grape from which they make excruciatingly expensive wine in Burgundy. And that means you fall outside the Appellation. ‘Whatever,’ my son would say, and that’s exactly how it is, because the wine is top-notch.

What are “cépages”?

To have a chance of winning a dinner for 4 people with Pays d’Oc wines, you first have to take part in a small wine quiz. By correctly answering the five quiz questions, you have a chance to take part in one of these evenings (10, 15 and 17 December). I’ll give you the first answer right away: cépages are grape varieties. Only four more to go—you can do this!

Wine tasting

As the lucky winner, you will receive a special ingredients package from Lindenhoff, filled with all the ingredients needed for a delicious and, above all, festive three-course menu. The delicious French wines (you will receive four different bottles of wine) featured during the workshop will be explained by the finest wine writer in our country: Esmee Langereis. Want to increase your chances of winning? Then also follow Insta @nl_vinspaysdocigp. What are you waiting for? Take that quiz now!
