Coffee at your favorite café? This brilliant invention comes very close!
Of all the things we miss most during the hospitality industry closure (which is really taking grotesque proportions now!), that wonderful hospitality vibe may well be the worst loss. The buzz of other guests, the laid-back music of our favorite coffee shop, the sound of coffee machines, clinking cups. In that respect, this invention is nothing short of brilliant.
I prefer to work in a coffee shop where you can also have a nice lunch. Laptop fully charged, long to-do list, and starting at eight o’clock with a double espresso. You wouldn’t believe how much work I get done there without needing my noise cancelling headphones. I actually work well with that sound; apparently, this is a principle from feng shui, by the way. There’s background noise, but you don’t have to do anything with it because it isn’t intended for you.
Café Sounds
Whatever it is, I miss it. And then I suddenly saw a brilliant tip on LinkedIn. Just as you have a playlist on Spotify for babies with white noise (which sounds roughly like an overactive extractor fan and helps them sleep wonderfully), there is also Café Sounds.
Comforting sound
You hear cutlery clattering in the kitchen, plates being shuffled through the dishwasher, it sounds as if there are at least a hundred people around you chatting away, and every now and then you hear someone laughing very loudly. But everything is just quiet enough not to make out. Exactly how I like the sound in my lunch spot. It’s comforting, especially if you miss the hospitality industry as much as I do. An added benefit: it drowns out the phone calls of housemates working from home.
