Colourful artworks made from puffed rice grains

Mister Krisp

You can slurp down puffed rice grains with a generous splash of milk for breakfast. Instagrammer Mister Krisp would rather turn them into saccharine, cheerful works of art.

She (yes, Mister Krisp is a woman) has been doing this for a while: around four years ago, she made her first creation from puffed rice grains – a hamburger. She uses green food colouring for the lettuce, red food colouring for the tomato and chocolate rice for the meat. After the hamburger, she continues experimenting and posting photos of her artworks on Instagram. They quickly receive thousands of hearts.

Pizzas and puppies

Mister Krisp uses just four ingredients: puffed rice, marshmallows, butter and a little food colouring. With these, she puts all her edible artworks together in no time. From pizzas, hamburgers and avocados to puppies and pandas.

Techniques

Making rice figures may seem easy, but it actually requires quite a bit of technique. You use different techniques depending on what you want to make. Mix the rice grains with more butter for a softer result. For larger projects, the grains need to be somewhat firmer and larger, so use less butter. In addition, being able to work quickly is an absolute must; the sticky rice mixture cools down again quickly.

Her own book

Would you like to give it a try? Mister Krisp wrote a book last year, in which she explains step by step how to do it. You can order her book Treat Yourself: How to Make 93 Ridiculously Fun No-Bake Crispy Rice Treats here.
