Comfort Food at Meatless District

We all want good food that makes us happy because it is genuine comfort food. Bonus points if it is also sustainable and prepared with love. The successful Meatless District in Amsterdam has understood that.

Who? Cil Vermolen and Cathalijne Huijben
Where? On Van Woustraat in Amsterdam’s De Pijp
When? Mid-August
What’s new?
Meatless District already has a restaurant in Oud-West on Bilderdijkstraat, but now a new location is opening in De Pijp. The menu will differ slightly from the one at Bilderdijkstraat, giving each location its own character.

What’s on the menu?
A combination of comfort food and healthy dishes. For lunch, think of a smoked salmon bagel made from tomato, or spring rolls with fresh vegetables and hoisin. For the main course, you can enjoy spicy ‘chicken’ with fried noodles and miso mayonnaise, among other dishes, as well as risotto with asparagus and fresh peas. Or go for a deliciously indulgent seitan burger with the special MD sauce and kimchi on the side.

What stands out?
The cooking uses as many local, organic and seasonal ingredients as possible, and the ice cream comes from Van Leeuwen ice cream. That alone is a reason to go. All the wines are organic (and vegan), and there is also a wide selection of local beers.
