Corona update: standing in the pub with 100 people, it’s allowed again
It was, of course, already coming, the number of new infections has been steadily declining for weeks and although it has not yet been officially confirmed, we can assume it: from 1 July, the corona measures will be relaxed and we can once again stand in the pub with 100 people. But a conga line? Not yet.
It looks like from 1 July, a maximum of one hundred people will be allowed to gather in hospitality venues. At the moment, that number is a maximum of thirty. But…we must still keep 1.5 metres apart. Hands in the air, then, because more will be allowed again, but don’t put them on your pub companion’s shoulders to go dancing through the venue.
One and a half metres…
On Wednesday, the cabinet’s crisis committee will make a formal decision on relaxing the measures. According to insiders, the cabinet’s message will be: a great deal is possible, provided you continue to observe the 1.5-metre distancing rule, as RTL nieuws reported. But if the cabinet makes the planned relaxations for the hospitality industry (which also applies to theatres and gyms, for example) definitive, Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN) hopes for additional relaxations, including specifically dropping the 1.5-metre requirement for outdoor terraces. According to KHN, that would make a difference for many entrepreneurs.
More bankruptcies?
You cannot run a profitable hospitality business with the 1.5-metre measures, as is the case for many hospitality businesses. That is also why around thirty per cent of hospitality establishments did not reopen at all after the corona lockdown. Will these businesses open now? Time will tell. The same applies to the expectation that many businesses may not survive after 1 July. To be continued…
