Couscous bar pop-up

Forget that couscous salad with feta and cucumber that you throw together in ten minutes on a Tuesday evening. Real couscous takes a little more work and, if you ask us, is many times more delicious. Luckily, you don’t have to do all that work yourself: you can now visit the Couscous bar pop-up in Amsterdam’s De Pijp.

There is already a permanent Couscous bar location in Amsterdam-Oost, run by Nadia and Samira. Their mothers are in charge there, lovingly chopping, slicing, steaming and cooking pots and pans full of couscous. Don’t feel like cycling all the way to Oost? You can now enjoy that delicious couscous temporarily in De Pijp too.
IJscuypje
The bar has been open since mid-January and will remain there until 1 March. If you like ice cream, the location probably won’t be hard to find. In summer, an IJscuypje operates here (the one in that side street off the Albert Cuyp). Now that it is almost freezing outside, we’re not going to torture ourselves by eating an ice cream outdoors. A much better idea is a warm, steaming plate full of couscous.
Pulled lamb
The menu features a number of popular options from the Oost location. The classic couscous with seven Moroccan vegetables, caramelised onion and raisins obviously cannot be missing. And we definitely want to try the one with pulled lamb and dukkah too. There are plenty of options on the menu for vegans as well—how about chickpeas with charmila or a delicious soup?
The shop is open daily from 12:00 to 21:00. And if you’re not nearby, you can of course still cycle to Javastraat in Oost.
