Delicious! Hendrick’s has launched a new limited-edition gin: Lunar Gin

The wildly popular Hendrick’s Gin has launched a new limited edition today. With Lunar Gin, Hendrick’s Gin captures the dead of night in a bottle. Friendly, warm and slightly floral and citrusy; Lunar Gin is one to sip as dusk sets in or when the night is at its darkest…

As a limited edition, Lunar Gin takes over from Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice, which was temporarily introduced last summer. And as befits Hendrick’s, this launch is also surrounded by curiosities (one of the reasons I love this gin brand so much). Because of corona, not through a mysterious and quirky party, but via a special YouTube session in which the iconic Hendrick’s cucumber is launched to the moon. Once again, it was done just as crazily as it was brilliantly, love it! (For a quick impression, just check out this Instagram video).

A bottled night
This new Lunar Gin sprang from the mind of Lesley Gracie, master distiller of Hendrick’s Gin: ‘It’s that feeling – the feeling you have during the darkest and calmest nights. When the sky is clear and the stars stand out sharply. I wanted to capture the taste of those evenings, when you share stories with friends from dusk until the depths of night, in a gin.’
Like a blazing meteorite
Hendrick’s Lunar Gin is the second limited edition Gracie concocted from the Cabinet of Curiosities in The Hendrick’s Gin Palace. On the stretch of forgotten Scottish coastline where the palace lies hidden, the stars and moon shine especially brightly in the sky. And it is beneath that dark sky that Lesley likes to garden most. During one of Gracie’s many nocturnal weeding sessions, inspiration strikes like a blazing meteorite. Surrounded by botanical herbs and flowers, some of which only release their fragrance in the moonlight, she found the flavors of the night close to home. The flavors for a rich, warm and seductive gin.
A botanical garden beneath the moonlight
Gracie: ‘The botanicals in Lunar Gin provide a warmth that feels like wrapping yourself in a blanket as night falls. In between come the rich, floral aromas of a botanical garden beneath the moonlight. And then a spark of citrus. Not sharp like the afternoon sun, but bright, calm and subtle.’
Lunar Gin perfect serve
Ready to get started at home—what are you waiting for? Get a bottle of Hendrick’s Lunar Gin (€39,95) and get shaking! The Moonlight Buck is the perfect serve as far as I’m concerned: 50 ml Hendrick’s Lunar Gin in a highball glass with ice, top with 150ml Ginger Ale, Angostura bitters (four drops), a little fresh lemon juice, and garnish with cucumber and lemon peel.

Classic G&T
Also irresistible as ever: as a gin and tonic just the way you know it, with the signature cucumber garnish and the addition of a little black pepper. Pour 50ml Hendrick’s Lunar Gin, 150ml premium tonic water, 3 cucumber slices and some black pepper into a long drink glass.
