Deliciously guilty: these are the FavorFlav editorial team’s ultimate guilty pleasures
Whether you’re a fan of pizza with pineapple and Nutella, a can of cold frankfurters or cold microwave pancakes; we all have guilty pleasures. We don’t judge. In fact: let’s enjoy our guilty pleasures without feeling guilty. Because really, what is life without sinning a little every now and then?
We on the editorial team aren’t averse to a tasty meatball from the petrol station either, and we regularly polish off an entire pack of American cookies with white chocolate and macadamia nuts. And that’s not all. These are the all-time favorites of our editorial team:
Kapsalon (when I’m hammered)
Louise: ‘When I’ve had a few drinks and am cycling home, I simply have to stop by the snack bar for a kapsalon. And a large portion, too — with chicken, because when I’m hammered I don’t also eat lamb. Add a little extra garlic sauce and dig in! I love that combination of lettuce, limp fries and chicken, and it’s exactly what I need at moments like that. I devour the whole thing at lightning speed with the plastic fork from an aluminium tray: heavenly!’
Pasta with ketchup
Lauretta: ‘Simply cook pasta and pour ketchup over it, nothing else. Sometimes I don’t want to think about sauce, not even olive oil and garlic. And chilli pepper. I just want soft pasta with ketchup.’
Yoghurt gums
Besides American cookies and pasta without sauce (yes, it’s contagious in the editorial office), Jeske has another guilty pleasure: Katja yoghurt gums. ‘I can eat these sweets until I feel completely sick. I simply find that sweetness combined with the slight tanginess of the yoghurt ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS.’
An entire jar of Duo Penotti
FavorFlav’s Sharon would rather spoon an entire jar of Duo Penotti empty on the couch. Layer by layer, from dark to white. ‘Duo Penotti on bread? I can’t imagine it. Isn’t this simply made to be spooned straight from the jar until it’s empty?’
Lasagne with apple sauce
Our colleague Robbert has a very unusual craving, one I had never heard of until today: lasagne with apple sauce. Robbert: ‘Bizarre, I know, but I’ve been eating it since I was little. Apple sauce was a permanent fixture on our table; we actually ate it with every dish. Whether we were having Chinese food, pancakes or macaroni, that jar was always there. I think it’s absolutely delicious with lasagne, and I still eat it that way: that sweet flavour alternating with lasagne is simply too good.’
The petrol-station sandwich
As for me, nothing beats the egg-and-bacon sandwich from the petrol station. You know, those pre-packaged sandwiches that aren’t actually very tasty, but somehow taste so good because of it. Whenever I drive to visit my family in the south of the country, I hope I’ll have to refuel so I have an excuse to buy one of these sandwiches. There’s something about the deliciously chewy bacon in this sandwich — I just love it!
